Children and mental wellness is a top priority as SoulScience Health and Wellness Center. My goal is to help families identify anxiety early, initiate therapy asap, and thus prevent worsening of symptoms or progression to depression and suicidal ideation.

There are many types of anxiety and these can be easily confused with behavioral issues, oppositional defiant disorder, sleep problems, eating problems, social difficulties and restlessness. A key feature of anxiety is avoidance and stress that is situational and triggered by a perceived threat. Your pediatrician should be able to help you sort this out. Here are a few of the types of anxiety disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder, Separation anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder, Panic disorder, Phobias.

Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial. If anxiety is identified early, therapy may include cognitive behavioral therapy through a good therapist as well as mindfulness techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing, relaxation training, reframing anxiety provoking thoughts, art work, and journaling.

Our preteens and teens who have been participating in our yoga classes have been committed to attending weekly and really enjoy it. They are learning relaxation skills, breathwork, guided visual imagery, and journaling.

It has been one month since we open and the smiles I have seen as our clients enter and leave SoulScience, makes it all worth it.
